We’ve
already seen quite a few interesting players here at the feature match table
today, and we’ll continue that tradition here in round 6. Facing off are former
Belgian Champion Kim van Campenhoudt with his Mermail Deck and Dimitri Lianopoulos,
who is running Blue-Eyes Mythic Ruler. Let’s find out which of these players
will be victorious. It’s time to Duel!
Dimitri
took the dice roll and kicked things off with Gold Sarcophagus to banish Tidal,
Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls and add Mythic Water dragon to his hand. Next, he activated
Foolish Burial to send Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos to his Graveyard. He
banished Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders and Flamvell Guard from his hand to
Special summon it, and added Mythic Tree dragon to his hand through Redox,
Dragon Ruler of Boulders. He Summoned his Mythic Dragons, made them both level
8 and overlaid them for Divine Dragon Knight Felgrand before ending.
Kim played
Upstart Goblin for an extra card. He set a card to each zone and ended, as Blaster,
Dragon Ruler of Infernos returned to Dimitri’s Hand. Dimitri thought for a bit
before discarding Flamvell Guard and Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos to
destroy Torrential Tribute. He ended his turn.
Kim drew for
the turn and Special Summoned Mermail Abyssteus by discarding Atlantean Dragoons,
then added Mermail Abyssmegalo and Fishborg Archer. He summoned the latter and
Synchro Summoned for Leo the Keeper of the Sacred Trees! Kim discarded Tidal,
Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls and Mermail Abyssocea to summon Mermail Abyssmegalo,
who got his effect negated by Felgrand. Kim then used Tidal, Dragon Ruler of
Waterfalls’s effect, banishing Mermail Abyssocea and Atlantean Dragoons to get
him out of the Graveyard. Kim stacked his two level 7 Monsters to Xyz Summon
Number 11: Big Eye in Defence Mode and steal Felgrand! He then Flip Summoned
his Mermail Abysslinde and started attacking. Dimitri was left with 1600 Life
Points. Kim ended his Turn.
Dimitri
added the banished Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls in his Standby Phase.
After giving the situation some thought, he scooped. “I had a really bad hand,
it had 2 Blue-Eyes!” he admits.
Dimitri
starts the game with some nice plays, but Kim uses the tricks his Deck has to
offer to gain a massive advantage. Let’s see what the players’ Side Decks had
to offer.
Dimitri
started the second game as well. This time, he did so by playing 2 cards
face-down and setting a Monster. Kim set 3 cards and ended his turn as well.
Play went back to Dimitri who passes. Back to Kim, who set a Monster and ended.
Dimitri took a good look at his hand and ended. Kim summoned Dragoons and
flipped his Mermail Abyssturge. Both were stacked to Summon Abyss Dweller!
Dweller detached Atlantean dragoons, which let Kim search for Atlantean
Marksman. Dweller attacked Dimitri’s face-down monster, but met Phoenix Wing
Wind Blast, for which Dimitri discarded The White Stone of Legend, not getting
a chance to activate its effect. Kim ends his turn.
Dimitri
summoned Kuribandit! He flipped his Debris Dragon, and Synchro Summoned Black
Rose Dragon, who took out all cards on the field! Kim didn’t have the Sphere
and lost 2 copies of Mystical Space Typhoon and a Debunk,
and Dimitri lost his face-down Soul Charge. Next, Foolish Burial came down to
put Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos in the Graveyard. Black Rose dragon and
Debris Dragon got banished for Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos, who attacked
for 2800 points of damage.
Play goes back
to Kim, who now has 5 cards in hand to Dimitri’s 3. He discarded Atlantean
Heavy Infantry to Special Summon Abyssteus in Defence Mode, and Dimitri chains
Maxx “C”. Kim destroys Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos and searches for Mermail
Abysslinde as Dimitri drew. Kim set a second monster and ended.
Dimitri
played Gold Sarcophagus, banishing Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms and
searching out Influence Dragon. Ha banished Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos
and Maxx “C” to summon Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders in Defence Mode and
searched out Flamvell Guard. He normal Summoned the latter and Synchro Summoned
for crimson Blader, who attacked and destroyed Mermail Abyssteus.
Kim played
Soul Charge to Summon Dragoons and Mermail Abyssteus at the cost of 2000 Life
Points. He used them to Xyz Summon Number 101: Silent Honor Ark in Defence Mode
and absorbed Crimson Blader. Atlantean Dragoons got Kim Mermail Abyssmegalo. He set 1 card and ended
his turn.
Dimitri activated Dragon Shrine to send Blue-Eyes
White dragon and Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls to his Graveyard. He used Tidal,
Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls’s effect from there, banishing Redox, Dragon Ruler
of Boulders and Flamvell Guard. Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders let him add
Mythic Tree Dragon, which he Summoned. When he Special Summoned Mythic Water Dragon,
Kim flipped Torrential Tribute! His ARK survived and his set Mermail Abysslinde
Special Summoned Mermail Abyssteus from the Deck. Dimitri had a backup plan in
the form of Soul Charge! He summoned Blue-Eyes White Dragon, White Stone of
Legend and his 2 Mythic Dragons in exchange for 4000 Life Points. He then Xyz
Summoned Number 88: Gimmick Puppet Giant Grinder and Synchro Summoned
Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon. He ended his turn.
Kim drew Mermail
Abysspike. He discarded it along with Atlantean Marksman to Summon Mermail Abyssmegalo
and searched out Abyss-Sphere. He ran some calculations, went through his Extra
Deck and eventually Summoned Genex Controller. Kim Synchro Summoned Leo the
Keeper of Sacred Trees, tributed Number ARK for Megalo effect. He took out
Dimitri’s Monsters and ended.
Dimitri
started his turn, and time on the round was called. The banished Tempest,
Dragon Ruler of Storms returned to his hand. He banished Mythic Water Dragon
and Blue-Eyes White dragon to bring Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls back from
the Graveyard, and Normal Summoned Influence Dragon, to Synchro Summon his own
Leo, which took out Mermail Abyssmegalo.
For the
first turn of the End-of-Match Procedure, Kim summoned Mermail Abysspike, and
when he crashed his Leo into Dimitri’s, Dimitri offered him the handshake.
