Feature Match Round 3: Ken Van Schoor (Evilswarm) vs Youri Lansman (Gravekeeper)

Our players for the 3rd round of this year’s National Championship are none other than teammates Youri Lansman from the Netherlands and Ken Van Schoor. When they found out they had to duel, they greeted each other with a heart-warming man hug. They’re running Gravekeepers and Evilswarm, so we can expect an awesome match! It’s time to Duel!

 

Ken wins the dice roll, and opens this match with Evilswarm Thunderbird and 2 set cards. Youri uses Pot of Duality to grab a Fiendish Chain, then activates Gravekeeper Commandant to add Necrovalley to his hand. He uses MST to take out another MST, then summons Gravekeeper Descendant, activates Necrovalley and attacks into Fiendish Chain. He sets 2 cards face-down and ends his turn. Ken Summons Evilswarm Kerykeion and overlays his monsters for Evilswarm Ophion. He activates Ophion’s effect, but he also gets Chain’d. He sets 2 more backrow and passes. Youri summons Gravekeeper Assailant and switches Descendant to Defence Mode. He attacks Ophion, switching Ophion Defence Mode using its effect, destroying him . In Main Phase 2 Youri attempts to activate descendant’s effect, tributing Assailant. As soon as he did this, he realized Descendant was still under Fiendish Chain.

Ken summoned Evilswarm Thunderbird and passes.
Youri activated Gravekeeper Stele, adding Commandant and Assailant, and summoned the latter. Youri attacked Thunderbird with Assailant, and Ken activated Infestation Infection, shuffling a Kerykeion from his hand, chaining Thunderbird. He adds Evilswarm Heliotrope with the effect of Infestation Infection, the attack from Assailant became direct. In Main Phase 2, Youri overlaid his Monsters for Number 66: Master Key Beetle. When it attempted to use its effect to protect Necrovalley, it got hit by Ken’s Fiendish Chain.

In Ken’s Standby Phase Evilswarm Thunderbird returned, and Ken summoned Evilswarm Heliotrope. He overlaid his Monsters to Xyz Summon Evilswarm Ophion, whose effect allowed Ken to add Infestation Pandemic to his hand. Ophion attacks, Youri activates Dimensional Prison, but Ken saves it with Infestation Pandemic, and then set another card face-down.

Youri activates Dark Hole and Summoned Gravekeeper Commandant, who ran into Mirror Force! Youri set 1 extra card and ended his turn. Ken summoned Evilswarm Thunderbird, who got destroyed by Solemn Warning! Ken ended his turn, Youri set a new card face-down and ended his turn.

Ken passed, Youri set an extra card and passed as well. Ken drew and Summoned Evilswarm Heliotrope He attacked Youri directly with it, then set another card face-down. In his turn, Youri set a card once more and ended. Ken swung again with Evilswarm Heliotrope. Youri did the same as he did in his last turn. Heliotrope attacked again and Ken set another card face-down. Youri set another card, and now he had  5 backline.

Ken Attack with Heliotrope, who finally ran into Mirror Force! Luckily for Ken, had Infestation Pandemic so that the vanilla monster could take away Youri’s last few Life Points.

Ken wins the first game, after grinding and chipping away Youri’s Life Points with Evilswarm Heliotrope! Both players dig into their Side Deck, looking for answers.

Youri kicks off game 2 with 4 face-down cards. Ken summoned Evilswarm Castor and attacked into Dimensional Prison. In Main Phase 2, Ken Summoned Evilswarm Kerykeion and set 3 cards face-down. Youri set cards until he had 5 and ended his turn.

Ken summoned Evilswarm Mandragora, and Youri had Dust Tornado to take out a Fiendish Chain. Youri then activated Rivalry of Warlords, but Ken had a Twister to save the day! Ken overlaid his monsters for Evilswarm Exciton Knight and activated its effect. Youri tried to save his field with Fiendish Chain, but once again Ken had Infestation Pandemic. The field got whipped, and Youri added Gravekeeper Commandant to his hand through the effect of Gravekeeper Recruiter.

Youri drew for his turn. He Summoned Gravekeeper Commandant, attacked Exciton Knight and flipped it face-down with Book of Moon! We were into a grinding game again where Youri had the only card in play!

Ken set 1 card. Youri attacked directly with Gravekeeper Commandant, dropping Ken to 5900 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, he activated Necrovalley. Heliotrope came down and attacked the 2100 ATK Commandant. This might seem like a silly move, but Ken’s face-down card was Twister! This destroyed Necrovalley!

Youri drew a card and set it. Ken attacked directly with his Heliotrope, and summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh in Main Phase 2. Youri drew a card and set it as well. Ken switched Thunder King to Defence Mode, attacked directly with Evilswarm Heliotrope and set 1.

Youri flips Mystical Space Typhoon to take out one of Ken’s set cards, and attacked Gravekeeper Commandant with Thunder King. Ken took it out with Heliotrope and set a card. Youri set monster and ended his turn. Ken Summoned another Evilswarm Heliotrope, which attacked over Gravekeeper Descendant, leaving Youri at 1550 Life Points. Youri drew for his turn, and realized the Duel was over. He picked up his cards, leaving Ken with the victory. Ken advances with a 3-0 record!
