The Finals: Jean-Lou Bernard (Infernity) vs "Pro"-Ming Wong (Evilswarm)

I must say, it’s been a wonderful weekend for me. I’ve had a great time reporting to you readers what’s been going on in Outpost Antwerp’s basement for the past two days, but that’s almost over, as we’re preparing for the finals. But anyway, our two finalists here at the Belgian Yu-Gi-Oh National Championship 2014 are Jean-Lou Bernard and Ho-Ming Wong. Who will stand victorious? Who will be this year’s King of Games?

Dear heavens, just look at the time… IT IS TIME… TO DUEL!

Sunday 18 May 2014

Feature Match Top 4: Sebastien Gonzales (Mythic Ruler) vs Jean-Lou Bernard (Infernity)

The finals are getting dangerously close and I can just smell the excitement and tension in the air! For our top 4 feature match, I’m happy to welcome reigning champion Jean-Lou Bernard and former champion Sebastien Gonzales to my lair. Who will make it to the finals while the other is left in the dust? Lady and gentlemen, it is once again… time to Duel!

Feature Match Top 8: Max Van Nijverseel (Spellbook) vs Sebastian Faes (Fire Fist)

Duelists are being eliminated faster than a Field full of Monsters opposing Evilswarm Exciton Knight! Only 8 people still have a shot at it, and 4 of them are about to get that bubble burst. One of them will be either Max Van Nijverseel or Sebastian Faes. They’re both looking wary and eager to Duel. It’s time to Duel!

Feature Match Top 16: "Pro" Ming Wong (Evilswarm) vs Carl Vanhaelemeersch (Geargia)

Good morning, Duelists! Yesterday’s dust has settled, we’ve had a good night of sleep and we’re good to go again. We’re moving into the elimination part of this year’s National Championship with the top 32 players. Just who will win and who will lose? Keep your eyes peeled, because we’re in for a real treat!

Top 16 Deck Breakdown

Good morning Duelists!

We're preparing for day 2 as our Top 16 Duelists are finding their way into the venue once again. Our Deck Check team once again proved their kindness by giving me some statistics on which Decks we'll see in action today.

Feature Match Round 8: "Pro"-Ming Wong (Evilswarm) vs Alexey Reva (Lightsworn Ruler)

The last round of Day 1, as well as the last round of Swiss is about to start. This round’s feature boys are Alexey Reva and Ho-Ming Wong who are both very eager to come back tomorrow. With each of them sitting on a 6-1 record, this will more than likely be the case. This one will be gold! For the last time of today, it’s time to rev your flow on! I mean, it’s time to Duel!

Feature Match Round 7: Sebastien Gonzales (Mythic Ruler) vs Luca Resta (Mermail)

For this round, our 2 chosen Duelists are Sebastien Gonzales and Luca Resta.  Both of them currently have a 5-1 record. With 2 rounds of play left, the one who loses this match might miss out on Day 2, while the winner is almost sure of this position. Gentlemen, it’s time to Duel!

Feature Match Round 6: Kim Van Campenhoudt (Mermail) vs Dimitri Lianopoulos (Mythic Ruler)

We’ve already seen quite a few interesting players here at the feature match table today, and we’ll continue that tradition here in round 6. Facing off are former Belgian Champion Kim van Campenhoudt with his Mermail Deck and Dimitri Lianopoulos, who is running Blue-Eyes Mythic Ruler. Let’s find out which of these players will be victorious. It’s time to Duel!

Feature Match Round 5: Jambé Xavier (Gravekeeper) vs Sebastian Faes (Fire Fist)

We’re halfway Day 1 and the competition is becoming more interesting!  The Duelists that will be showing off their skills at the feature match table are none other than Sebastian Faes and JambĂ© Xavier. They’re piloting Fire Fist and Gravekeeper It’s time to Duel!

Feature Match Round 4: Ruben Dorpmans (Infernity) vs Lionel Monfort (Constellar)

Round 4 is about to start, and for this Feature Match I brought some interesting Duelists to my table. On the left we have Monfort Lionel who is piloting a Constellar Deck, and on the right we’ll see  Dorpmans Ruben running Infernity. I hope everyone’s ready for this, because I sure am! It’s time to Duel!

Feature Match Round 3: Ken Van Schoor (Evilswarm) vs Youri Lansman (Gravekeeper)

Our players for the 3rd round of this year’s National Championship are none other than teammates Youri Lansman from the Netherlands and Ken Van Schoor. When they found out they had to duel, they greeted each other with a heart-warming man hug. They’re running Gravekeepers and Evilswarm, so we can expect an awesome match! It’s time to Duel!

Feature Match Round 2: Kenny Everaert (Reversal Quiz) vs Raphael Van den Berghe (Mermail)

The second round is about to start. For this round, we will be following a player who let me know he’d be running a rather special Deck, namely Kenny Everaert and his Reversal Quiz Deck. His opponent for this match will be Raphael Van Den Bergh running Mermail. We sure are in for a jewel. It’s time to Duel!

It's time for st-t-t-statistics!

The Deck Check team was kind enough to run some numbers for me, and here are the results they came up with. As you can see, there's quite a bit of variety here, with the expected big decks being well-presented.

Feature Match Round 1: Jean-Lou Bernard (Infernity) vs Steven Jacobs (Frog Monarch)

For the first feature match, I’ve invited our current reigning champion, Jean-Lou Bernard to the feature match table. Sitting opposite of him is Steven Jacobs, bringing his Frog Monarchs to the table. While his name may not ring a bell, you’ve probably already heard of him. Will he be able to overcome the man who won it all last year, or will Jean-Lou be taking the first step towards defending his title? We’re about to find out in the opening match of this year’s national championship. It’s time to Duel!

The grand number

The registrations are closed, and we ended up at 131 players! This means that we'll be playing 8 rounds of Swiss today, and a top 16 tomorrow! We're preparing this pairings for round 1 as I'm typing, and as soon as we get those, the Dueling can start!

Featuring the Feature Match Area!

I'm getting settled while the Duelists are finding their way into the venue. I must say, I'm pretty pleased with this small corner where I'll be spending most of my weekend.

"It looks nice!", Head Judge Nathan said as he settled down for a quick chat. "The only thing that looks a bit weird is the coverage guy."
